West End Middle School students enjoyed celebrating the holidays for an afternoon of fun at WEXP. The students divided into teams for a lively competition of making gingerbread houses, crafting them out of graham crackers, icing, and candy! They were judged on creativity, structure stability, and teamwork. They all loved being able to eat the the sweets afterward!
Other students had fun participating in a “Secret Santa” gift exchange. They brought hand wrapped items under $5 and played a game taking turns “stealing” a gift from another student, or opening their present and choosing to keep it. Everyone was impressed with the unique gifts that were brought and had fun playing with their toys and sharing the candy. As a fundraiser for our program, we’ve asked our students to design an original t-shirt logo they can wear at West End Middle School. After weeks of submitting creative and original drawings, the students cast their ballot for their favorite designs. The West End principle Dr. Hammond, also voted on his favorite logo and told the students they would be allowed to wear the WEXP shirts during school hours, making them school-attire appropriate.
After much deliberation, Javari Henderson's design was selected as the winner! We will have a graphic designer place the finishing touches and will post a photo as soon as the t-shirts are made. We’re excited to see the finished product! |
